A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

Underwater Perils is a 3D game in which a jellyfish goes on a journey through an underwater cave system, eating krill along the way, to figure out what's behind a light in the ocean.

Work

I started with a theme of "flowy" and created a moodboard to create the game concept

Moodboard

I took lighting, colors, and objects that fit the idea of flow and brought them together into this board.

I took 3D models of the caves and enemies and arranged them in a level progression.
I created a color gradient and used the Averia font to create game UI.
I added music and level sounds that followed the atmosphere of my theme.

Level Ideas

I wanted to increase the difficulty with each level so I made Level 1 very simple with just oil spill dangers in a single-path cave and the player must collect small krill along its path.

Level 2 is designed to be slightly harder than Level 1 with a new enemy, another species of jellyfish, and more complex turns.

Level 3 is designed to be medium difficulty with two types of enemies, other jellyfish and sea turtles. The cave paths get more intricate and make the player double back.

Level 4 combines all of the previously encountered enemies to create a difficult level just before the end of the game. The cave layout above from Level 4 incorporates a large turn and circular path with all of the previous enemies to make for a challenging second-to-last level.

Level 5 is the final and most difficult level. I added sharks as the hardest enemy due to their larger size and made pathway maneuvering tricky.
