Ghostly, A UI/UX Design for a Spooky Word Game

Ghostly is a 2D word game in which players control a ghost trying to speak to a human through a ouija board and convey a message. At the start of the game, you're given a message that should take multiple sentences to convey which could be a wild story about how you died, descriptions of the future, or something else. Each level, you have to pick from a random list of words something to spell out and try to get the human to understand in as few characters and words as possible. Download one of the builds below to play a UI prototype of Ghostly!

Prototype Instructions:

  • Use the mouse to use the buttons, toggles, text fields (to detect typing on the keyboard), and sliders.
  • On the Graphics Options screen, the brightness slider can be controlled with the white handle or by typing in a value from 0 to 100 in the box beside it. On the Controls Options screen, controls can be mapped by hovering the mouse over a mapping box and pressing the key you want to bind.
  • Pressing "p" opens the Pause screen, pressing "w" opens the Win screen, pressing "L" opens the Lose screen, and pressing "." increases the light bulb progress bar on the HUD and pressing "," decreases it.

Well the sound effects were fun. We didn't really get the point of the game, but it looks interesting. We'd like to play it when it's finished.
